Hi, my name is Danielle Calder. I started Candid Counseling to provide therapy that is culturally competent in the complexity of how religion impacts mental health and relationships.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and work with people living in California, Idaho, and Utah.

I grew up as a faithful and devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I served a mission in Boston, Massachusetts and was as a temple worker.
I went to Brigham Young University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Family Life with a minor in Psychology, and a Master's degree in Social Work. I was married in an LDS temple and I have three kids.
Most importantly I am a licensed therapist and believe in the power of healing and reclaiming your autonomy.

I say all of this because I want you to know that I know what it is like to devote all that you are to a religion and then have your breaking point wondering what to do next. I know what it is like to try and change harmful culture and live with pervasive cognitive dissonance. I know what it is like to discover who you really are and build a life on your terms.
I've been there and I can help you.

Depression, anxiety, and co-occurring disorders.
I am an Associate Social Worker and work with people living in California, Hawaii, Idaho, and Utah.

I provide trauma-focused therapy such as emotion and trauma processing, cognitive behavioral and processing therapies, dialectical behavior therapy, and addiction/relapse prevention to address symptoms, needs, and goals.
I have extensive experience working with individuals experiencing (C)PTSD, traumatic and abusive relationships, childhood/lifelong trauma patterns, substance dependence and addiction, anxiety and depression,
With compassion and validation, I approach healing with keeping your autonomy, strengths, and needs at the forefront of the focus. Healing from trauma is neither a linear nor a comfortable journey.
Wherever you are on the path, I am here to support you, provide space to explore both the pains of your past and the possibilities of your future.
Through that exploration, you can build new understanding, gain fresh perspectives, develop more effective skills, and disrupt ineffective patterns.
